The Beneficiary: Athletes 4 Cancer's Camp Koru

Camp Koru is an adventure retreat program that empowers young cancer fighters and survivors, ages 18-40, to find healing, achievement, and life renewal through active outdoor experiences in the ocean and the mountains.

Participants are given the proper tools, professional instruction, and focused encouragement required to take on new challenges, such as – surfing, standup paddling, outrigger canoeing, and snowboarding. The journey is shared with peer survivors also battling cancer challenges and relationships formed at camp. Through the experience, survivors learn to overcome fears and face life's challenges, finding confidence, direction and their positive potential after cancer.

Athletes 4 Cancer provides this experience free to qualified applicants, as the financial burden of cancer is difficult enough to deal with on its own. It costs approximately $1500 to send one survivor through the program - a small investment for a life-transforming experience that also positively impacts friends and family alike.

If you have more questions about Athletes 4 Cancer and Camp Koru, please check out the Athletes 4 Cancer website or you can email the Executive Director directly: tonia (at) athletes4cancer.org.
